Part 1 Introduction
Abstract
Why Dividend policy
Dividend policy is important for investors because it is connected to the enterprise value directly. Recently, it is too much low that investors get profits from dividend payouts as compared with other countries. Dividend policy which creates value to the company and shareholders should be decided with consideration of future investment opportunities, return on investments, future cash flow, capital finance conditions, etc. Company managers are evaluated their performances in a general meeting of stockholders. The stockholders have to concern the dividend distributed as their own share. Moreover, since the global financial crisis the management focusing on shareholder’s benefit is well on the way to establishing itself with reforming systems and carrying on the movement of small sum stockholders. However, despite trying to these reform corporate governance and the reformations, dividend policies which can secure the strong stockholders are often overlooked in Korea. Particularly, dividend policy need to be careful consideration due to being related in investment planning and financial structure.
Therefore, from theoretical parts on dividend, we report the factors affecting dividend policy in priority with several cases, and then discuss about problems of procedures for dividend in case study.
The terms related with dividend
Dividend : A distribution of a portion of a company's earnings, decided by the board of directors, to a class of its shareholders. The dividend is most often quoted in terms of the dollar amount each share receives (dividends per share). It can also be quoted in terms of a percent of the current market price, referred to as dividend yield
Dividend yield : A financial ratio that shows how much a company pays out in dividends each year relative to its share price. In the absence of any capital gains, the dividend yield is the return on investment for a stock. Dividend yield is calculated as follows:
Dividend Yield Ratio : it compares the cash return from a stock to its current stock market value. This enables an investor to compare ratios for different companies and industries
Dividend Yield Ratio = (Dividend Per Share) / ( Number of Shares in issue) x 100
