테일러는 3S(단순화(Simplification), 분업화(Specialization), 표준화(Standardization))를 주장한다.

1. Sam Slick 사례의 문제점
Sam Slick은 테일러적인 관점에서 판매량이 저조한 차종의 판매를 증진시키는 등의 충분히 칭찬받은 만한 행동도 취하였다. 하지만 회사가 정한 커미션 5%를 지키지 않고 그 보다 낮은 커미션 3%으로 차를 판매하는 등의 표준화를 지키지 않은 행동을 보이고 있다. 회사에서는 5% 커미션이 가장 합리적이고 효율적이라고 판단했기 때문에 회사의 방침으로 5%의 커미션을 표준화시켰다고 할 수 있다. 그런데 Sam Slick은 그런 회사의 방침을 어기고 커미션을 줄여서 다른 영업사원보다 더 많은 실적을 올렸다. 여기서 표준화를 어겼다는 한 가지 문제점을 알 수 있다. 또한 표준화를 지키지 않은 Sam Slick이 최고의 영업사원이 되면서 다른 영업사원들의 동기유발을 저해하고 있다. 여기서 말하는 동기유발은 영업실적이 좋은 사원에게는 상여금이나 성과급 같은 보상을 의미한다. Sam Slick이 5% 커미션을 지키지 않으면서 최고의 영업사원이 됨으로써 다른 영업사원들의 동기유발을 저해해서 근로의욕을 떨어뜨리는 문제점을 야기하고 있다. 여기서 또 한가지 문제점을 발견할 수 있다.
