Walmart requested the research to be conducted to find a way to minimize the operating costs of the companys distribution centers. There was the first research study conducted, and it was not successful because the result of the research was not simple enough for the companys decision-makers to comprehend. The management-research hierarchy is as follows:
Management-Research Hierarchy
A. Management Dilemma
1. The operational costs at the distribution centers must be minimized to maintain profitability.
2. The result of the research must be conveyed to the management level in clear and simple manner so that the decision makers can understand the result thoroughly.
B. Management Questions
1. How can we minimize operating costs at distribution centers?
2. What should be done to make the solution easy to understand and simple to implement?
C. Research Questions
1. Should the number of carton sizes be increased or decreased?
