To manage performance, a manager (organization) needs:
Information to make informed decisions
- How to organize logistics?
- Should we introduce a new product / service or discontinue existing one?
- Where to establish next factory / sales office / R&D site?
- Etc. A management (“control”) system to ensure managers and employees at all levels do their best
for the company
- Accountability
- Incentives
- Etc.

Ensuring that the organization is on track towards achieving its objectives
- Specify objectives (plan)
- Communicate objectives to organization members (communicate and implement)
- Monitor performance relating to objectives (measure)
- Act on discrepancies between actual and target performance (revise)

Control system -or management system -refers to a set of procedures, tools, performance
measures, and systems that organizations use to guide and motivate all employees to achieve
organizational objectives
Hence, management control is much more than accounting or management by objectives!
Note, we speak about systems -management and leadership is, of course, much more than
systems only
