3.1. Problems of strategy, staffing and skills:
market share decrease in Smart Phone market
Recently, LG Electronics made poor performance due to their lack of appropriate management in Smart Phone market. The most critical reason in this problem is that LG Electronics’ wrong strategy toward starting Smart Phone market brought staffing problems and excessive attachment for their competitive skills out. It eventually influenced LG Electronics’ succeeding strategy which comes out completely incorrect way.
Smart Phone is not just adding complicated functions to cell phone. It can be understood as a small personalized PC providing direct connection to internet easily. Therefore, the core needs of Smart Phone is not based on cheaper cost or stylish design, but based on outstanding OS, various applications, and great capacity of CPU.
However, LG Electronics established wrong strategy focusing on sales of Non- Smart Phones which consist of Prada Phone, Chocolate Phone, Shine Phone, etc. They were all Feature- Phones which gave LG Electronics tremendous money due to their outstanding design.
This failure of LG Electronics happened because their mistake in future prediction and the influence of cooperative wire service companies. LG U+ , cooperating CYON which is the SBU of LG Electronics, has been skeptical about launching Smart Phone to avoid their rapid change of profit structure. Launching of Smart Phone leads to increase the use of Wi-Fi network and it may deteriorate the profit gained from 2G and 3G wireless data which takes great portion of the profit of domestic wire service companies. LG Electronics could not make independent decision about investment for Smart Phone due to the needs of wire service companies. Also, Domestic Wi-Fi network in the beginning was too poor to prosper, so LG Electronics did not predict that Smart Phone would become the mainstream of cell phone market. In other words
