Refund rate 0.25%, profits about 10 million dollars per year. This is the result of the world's most largest internet bookstore, amazon.com, which opened in 1994.
During the 1990s when internet technology began to spread through the public, Amazon.com’s CEO, Jeffry P. Bezos, realized that internet users were increasing about 2400% a year. So he decided to start a business based on Internet. He had looked over the possibility of cyber space Finding for the business item, he finally found the item which had small size with cheap price, and was able to make easy delivery to consumers, books. Then he looked for the brand name which consumers were easily able to access to. Thus, the amazon.com company reveals to the world, which starts with 'a'. This is the start of the Amazon.com-Online book-store.
After the foundation of the company, the sale of amazon.com has constantly increased 30% per year. However they went into the red because of the early expenditure and constant company combinations. Then in 2003, they firstly made a profit about 73.2 million dollars and this is keeping up until today.
Since this was internet bookstore, it doesn't need any space for displaying books. Also the refund rate is much less than other ordinary booksrores. This is the reason why amazon.com have competitive power compared to other analogue bookstores. When customers open amazon's door, a million books which were data based are waiting for them. The only things they are to do is sit down in their room, check their lists, order following the computer's guideline and pay with credit card. This is a simple business model, but the fact that he opened the business the first and continuous innovation of business model were 2 main key of the success of amazon.com.
