The reason why we chose this topic is to awaken an interest in and understanding of children who are suffering. We always say that children are our future. But, if their pain has gone on longer, our future cannot be hopeful. Thus, we need to realize how they are suffering and to help them.

II. Famine and Disease problems
1. Famine
A famine is a widespread scarcity of food that may apply to any species. This phenomenon is usually accompanied by regional malnutrition, starvation, epidemic, and increased mortality. Food shortages in a population are caused either by a lack of food or by difficulties in food distribution. The demographic impacts of famine are sharp. Mortality is concentrated among children and the elderly.
Today, some individual hog most of world wealth. Sum of 15 rich people’s fortune is over all African countries’GDP (except South Africa). There is enough food to feed 12 billion people; however, one side of earth is suffering from starvation while the other side of world is suffering from obesity. The most miserable thing is poor is handed down to children. Every year 153 million children under 5 are born in low-weight. Their mothers also have severe malnutrition. In fact, a child under 10 is dying every 6 seconds.

국제연맹에 의해 1924년 아동권리에 관한 제네바선언(Declaration of Geneva)으로 채택되었다. 1959년 유엔은 아동의 최선의 이익을 보장하기 위한 전문 10개조로된 아동의 권리선언(UN Declaration on the Rights of the Child)을 채택하였으며 아동의 생존, 보호, 발달을 포함한 아동의 최선의 이익을 고려하여 아동을 보호의 대상뿐만 아니라 적극적인 권리의 주체로 인정한 ‘아동의 권리에 관한 국제협약’(Convention on the Rights of the Child)이 1989년 유엔총회에서 만장일치
