| This paper attempts to provide a theoretical interpretation of China-Taiwan relations based on functionalist perspectives of integration. This functionalist attempt becomes meaningful after China and Taiwan singed off the 92 Common Acknowledgement in 1992. In addition to this agreement, we can find functionalist perspectives on both the Taiwanese and Chinese unification policies. In particular, the Chinese proposal of One Nation Two Systems is based on functionalism. Based upon these findings the paper concludes that functionalism provides important empirical implications on the current unification policies in China and Taiwan. |
