본문내용: ◎여성의 건강과 폐경은 급속히 확장되는 의학과 과학의 조사관련 영역이다. 사회적으로나 경제적으로 국가적, 세계적으로 상당히 중요하다. 이 컨퍼런스는 혈관학적 질환 뿐만 아니라 다른 건강의 이슈 예를 들어 암과 골다공증, 정신건강, 알츠하이머, 노화, 신경학적 양상, 성별과 폭넓은 호르몬 치료요법(HRT)의 영향을 다 기술하고 있다. 저자들은 정책자와 내과의사, 과학자들을 위한 귀중한 자료 예방과 국가적 지역적 차원에서 조절 전략에 관한 알려진 결정 뿐만 아니라 개인 여성들의 치료에 관한 옵션과 위험과 장점의 폐경의 건강의 관한 다른 전략의 정보를 개발해 왔다. 이 챕터는 폐경의 정의와 뿐만 아니라 HRT치료의 장단점과 폐경 증상의 조절 치료에 관한 것을 기술하였다. 또 마지막에는 폐경의 이행과 골절, 혈관학적 질환, 암(유방, 뇌, 대장, 복막, 난소와 폐), 치매, 그리고 정신건강을 기술하였다.

기초조사에서 새로운 발전
자연 에스트로겐은 2가지 알려진 에스트로겐 리셉터로 연결된 세포 활동성을 조절한다. 이 논문에서 최근의 에스트로겐의 생리학적 역할의 발견을 리뷰하였고, 혼절시킨 동물 모델 ERa와 ERb 특징을 가진 혹은 둘다 없는 것을 각각의 ERKO, BERKO, 그리고 DERKO 쥐, 의 사용을 통해 획득하였다.
에스트로겐의 다른 역할을 관찰한 결과, 세포 타입에 목표에 따라서 에스트로겐 리셉터의 대체타입과 목표기관 둘의 선택적으로 나중에 SERMs(selective estrogen receptor modulators)라 불리는 것 새로운 복합물의 연구를 유도하였다. 이상적인 SERMs는 에스트로겐 길항자로써 목표 조직 예를 들어 뼈와 간에서 작용을 하고, 반면에 그것들은 대항자로서 생산적인 기관들에서 행동한다. 그 양은 약리학적으로 잘 알려진 분자 예를 들어 tamoxifen과 raloxifene, 그리고 치료조사와 전 치료 단계의 새로운 SERMs을 표현한다.
