① Current ratio and Quick ratio
Current ratio and Quick ratio are used to check the company's financial health whether they can pay back its short-term liabilities with its short-term assets. We checked the Current Ratio and Quick Ratio. These two ratios are mainly used to give an idea of the company's ability to pay back its short-term liabilities.
Current ratio 169% 120%
Quick ratio 164% 114%
(※ These numbers are based on each corporate’s annual Report.)
Current ratio of MSFT is higher than that of IBM. This means that MSFT's short-term liquidity is better than IBM's one.
Quick ratio excludes inventory because relatively large inventories are a sign of short-term trouble. We can see that Quick ratio of both companies is almost same as current ratio.
Although IBM's Current and Quick ratio is smaller than MSFT, the ratios of both companies are over than 100%, and a high current ratio could also mean inefficient use of cash and other short-term assets. So we could not say which financial state of company is better than the other.
